The Thunder Rocketry Club at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College has been building and launching high power rockets for over ten years. Their first experiences were with the First Nations Competition in Wisconsin but, as of late, they have also been attempting the MnSGC Midwest Competition, which is closer to home. The Thunder Rocketry Club has had students from a wide variety of backgrounds and has had several of their members land NASA internships and participate in NCAS summer programs.
The Thunder Rocketry Club started on high power rockets, knowing little-to-nothing, and learned by making mistakes and fixing them. Known for thinking outside of the box, they have even motivated a couple of new rules in the First Nations Competition handbook. For example, plexiglass fins are not allowed and velcro is not allowed in the avionics bay. Their collection of rockets has grown steadily, as well as the need for rocket repairs.
The Thunder Rocketry Club is open to all Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College students, regardless of prior experience.
