Six college/university rocket teams, coached through a high-power rocket build using video-delivered lessons from the MnSGC at the U of MN – Twin Cities, launched their dual-deploy kit-rockets at the Tripoli MN launch field near North Branch on Nov. 10, 2018. This fall’s teams are from Bethel University, Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Paul College, University of St. John’s/St. Ben’s, Saint Cloud State University, and Normandale College. The video lessons were instructed by James Flaten at the U of MN – Twin Cities, assisted by Max Jetzer (U of MN student). Despite cold temperatures, all but one of the rockets flew fairly well (and the team that experienced a ground CATO plans to repair their rocket and launch it again in the spring).
After this taste of high-power rocketry, teams will consider their options for additional rocketry including the possibility of participating in either the Space Grant Midwest High-Power Rocket Challenge or the Minnesota College/University High-Power Rocketry “Check-Off Challenge” next spring.
